There was a large Jewish community in East Jerusalem before they were ethnically cleansed by the Jordanians.Jerusalem was never set aside for the Palestinians.Thus Israelis are living there as a consequence of victory in a war in the same way that Polish live in Danzig (now Gdansk), or Russian in Konigsberg.The moral position is important. The Palestinians are saying that Jews have no right to be in East Jerusalem even though there was a Jewish community there for thousands of years till 1948!
